Corby Property

Corby was a small village until the 1930s when new steelworks were built. This drew workers from across the country, particularly Glasgow, resulting in the town being called ‘Little Scotland’ for a time. Corby grew rapidly into a thriving and prosperous industrial town. The steel industry has now all but disappeared, and now stunning country parks sit where steelworks used to be.

In recent years Corby has undergone massive regeneration. In 2009 Corby was reconnected to England’s rail network, a journey time to London St Pancras of just over one hour has attracted many commuters to the town. The centre of town has benefitted from investment; many large retailers have been located in Corby.

  • Corby Boating Lake is a little pocket of nature in the centre of Corby. There’s a lakeside café, picnic areas and a children’s playground.
  • Ten minutes by car is Fermyn Woods Country Park, a tranquil area of countryside built on an old ironstone quarry. There are waymarked trails, a café and a children’s play area.
  • We highly recommend you visit the nearby Kirby Hall is a magnificent country house built in 1570; today, much of Kirby Hall is roofless. However, you can visit the staterooms and Great Hall furnished as they would have been in the 17th and 18th centuries. The formal gardens have also been restored.
  • Rockingham Castle is  located just outside of Corby, dates back to William the Conqueror. Visitors can explore the castle’s rooms, walk the ramparts, and enjoy the beautiful grounds.
  • East Carlton Country Park offers scenic walking trails, nature areas, a play area, and a visitor centre with a café and several exhibits.
  • Corby East Midlands International Pool is an outstanding leisure facility in the heart of Corby. There is a swimming pool, with flume and diving boards and a fully-equipped gym and group exercise timetable.
  • The Core at Corby Cube is Corby’s main theatre and arts space, which presents a range of fascinating performances and events throughout the year.

Most primary and secondary schools in Corby are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Corby benefits from a strong road network, making it easy to reach towns and cities that lie close by. The A43, A14, and M1 provide convenient access to Peterborough (reachable in under 30 minutes), Leicester (within an hour), and Northampton (about a 40-minute drive). Additionally, you have the advantage of four international airports nearby – Birmingham, Luton, Stansted, and East Midlands – all within a two-hour drive.

For local journeys, Corby is served by six bus routes offering connections to Peterborough, Oundle, Weldon, Danesholme, Kettering, Wellingborough, and Northampton. These routes provide regular service for commuting, shopping, and exploring the area.

Most residents appreciate Corby’s direct rail links to London. The East Midlands Railway operates hourly services to London St. Pancras International, with the journey taking approximately 75 minutes. The line also stops at Kettering and Wellingborough, letting you explore local towns as well.

Willow Place Shopping Centre in central Corby has over 140 shops and stores, offering an excellent mix of independent and high-street brands. It includes the likes of Argos, Game, Boots, Clarks – and notably – several banks including Nationwide and Halifax. Given its size, you’re likely to find whatever you need here. At the same time, Corby is well served by other supermarkets with Tesco, Asda and Morrisons all present for your everyday groceries.

The modern Corby Cube is a multi-use building completed as part of the regeneration project. It houses the library, two theatres and council offices. The theatres both have a packed calendar with something for adults and children alike. The local Adrenalin Alley is the UK’s largest urban sports venue with facilities for skateboarding and BMX-ing.

In terms of healthcare, Kettering General Hospital is the nearest hospital (20 mins away), while Corby itself contains several doctors’ surgeries including Lakeside Corby Healthcare, and Woodsend Medical Centre.

Corby features a broad selection of housing stock spanning several eras. The town showcases numerous post-war dwellings built during its expansion as a steelworks town in the 1950s and 1960s. These properties tend to be solidly constructed terraced houses and semi-detached homes that offer spacious interiors.

More recently, particularly since the 2000s, Corby has seen the addition of contemporary estates with detached and semi-detached properties. The town also includes several older cottages and Victorian terraces in certain pockets, especially near the old village area.

The most sought-after properties can be found in the Oakley Vale development, which offers newer family homes with good-sized gardens. Properties along Rockingham Road present a mixture of period houses with distinctive features.

The Weldon village area, technically part of Corby, maintains its historical nature with stone cottages dating back several centuries, giving buyers the opportunity to own properties with unique architectural elements.

Development in Corby: The town has undergone significant regeneration over the past decade. The Corby Cube and swimming pool complex represents a major civic development that has transformed the centre of the town.
