Corby was a small village until the 1930s when new steelworks were built. This drew workers from across the country, particularly Glasgow, resulting in the town being called ‘Little Scotland’ for a time. Corby grew rapidly into a thriving and prosperous industrial town. The steel industry has now all but disappeared, and now stunning country parks sit where steelworks used to be.
In recent years Corby has undergone massive regeneration. In 2009 Corby was reconnected to England’s rail network, a journey time to London St Pancras of just over one hour has attracted many commuters to the town. The centre of town has benefitted from investment; many large retailers have been located in Corby.

Corby features a broad selection of housing stock spanning several eras. The town showcases numerous post-war dwellings built during its expansion as a steelworks town in the 1950s and 1960s. These properties tend to be solidly constructed terraced houses and semi-detached homes that offer spacious interiors.
More recently, particularly since the 2000s, Corby has seen the addition of contemporary estates with detached and semi-detached properties. The town also includes several older cottages and Victorian terraces in certain pockets, especially near the old village area.
The most sought-after properties can be found in the Oakley Vale development, which offers newer family homes with good-sized gardens. Properties along Rockingham Road present a mixture of period houses with distinctive features.
The Weldon village area, technically part of Corby, maintains its historical nature with stone cottages dating back several centuries, giving buyers the opportunity to own properties with unique architectural elements.
